Read Hilary Musser’s Full Interview About Her Experience
When people experience Slate for the first time, one thing we hear about time and time again is just how effortless travel can be.
Recently, we sat down with Hilary Musser—Palm Beach socialite, luxury real estate broker, interior designer, and a familiar face from Netflix’s Members Only Palm Beach—to hear about her first experience flying Slate.
Here’s what she had to say:
1. What made you choose Slate over flying commercial or another private aviation option?
Getting to Nantucket commercially is surprisingly difficult. You usually have to connect through Boston, New York, or Washington, D.C., and those flights are constantly delayed. The on-time arrival rate feels like it’s less than 50%, so I wanted a more reliable and seamless way to travel. Since Atlantic Aviation is less than 10 minutes from my home, Slate made getting to Nantucket incredibly easy.
2. Can you walk us through your experience from arriving for your flight to arriving at your destination?
From the moment I arrived at Atlantic Aviation, the experience was exceptional. Walking into Slate’s private terminal, I was greeted by such friendly staff, there were snacks waiting, and everything felt effortless.
Boarding was smooth, the flight attendant was wonderful, and even something as simple as the Buccan Sandwich was fantastic. When we landed, the luggage handling was seamless, and from beginning to end the entire experience felt elevated and stress-free.
3. What stood out most about your experience flying with Slate?
The quality of the aircraft really surprised me. I’ve flown on a lot of private and shared private aviation services over the years, starting with JetSmarter before it became XO, and I’ve flown on private planes as well. Honestly, this aircraft was nicer than many of the others I’ve experienced.
The attention to detail, service, and overall comfort really stood out.
4. How has flying with Slate changed the way you travel?
Slate has completely changed how I think about traveling to destinations like Nantucket. Instead of worrying about connections, delays, and crowded airports, I can leave from Atlantic Aviation just minutes from my house and be in Nantucket quickly and comfortably.
It makes spontaneous trips so much easier, and I’m already looking forward to flying Slate to Westhampton and exploring more of their destinations.
5. What would you say to someone who’s considering flying with Slate for the first time?
Just do it—you’ll understand immediately why people love it. The experience is incredibly smooth, luxurious, and convenient. From the moment you arrive until the moment you leave, everything is thoughtfully handled, and it’s a completely different way to travel.
6. What was your biggest surprise after flying with Slate?
There were so many thoughtful touches. Amanda’s beautiful birthday pastries were such a wonderful surprise, but beyond that, I was most impressed by how polished the entire experience was—from boarding and the onboard service to the luggage handling after landing.
Every detail felt elevated.
7. How does flying Slate compare to first class or flying private?
It is beyond first class! It truly feels like flying private. I’ve owned my own plane, flown on friends’ private aircraft, and flown with companies like JetSmarter and XO, and Slate delivers that same private aviation feeling with an incredible level of service and comfort.
8. What was the first route you’ve flown with Slate and why?
My first Slate flight was to Nantucket, which is a place that’s incredibly special to me. It’s really like a second home. I’ve been going there for over 30 years, I’ve built homes there, owned several homes there, lived there, and even owned a business on Federal Street.
Being able to get there so easily from my home in Palm Beach makes the experience even more meaningful.
9. What are some highlights and/or recommendations of things to do in Nantucket?
One of my favorite things to do is rent a Defender from Nantucket Island Tours (East End) because their vehicles already have beach permits, which is a huge advantage. Drive out onto the beach, have a beach barbecue with a bonfire, and stay through sunset. I also love driving out to Great Point—it’s one of the most beautiful drives on the island.
For restaurants, Crew is a must on the waterfront. Twenty-One Federal and The Pearl are longtime favorites, and if you’re looking for nightlife, The Club Car and The Chicken Box are always fun.
One of my personal favorite traditions is picking up a lobster dinner to-go from Sayle’s Seafood and enjoying it at home or on the beach.
10. If you could describe Slate in three words, what would they be?
Ultimate. Elegant. Luxury.
